Celebrating Independence Day: Plan the weekend!
4th of July is one of the most patriotic holidays in the USA – it’s the United States Independence Day, which is celebrated every year and is always full of family, friends, fireworks, and fun. Later in the evening, the night sky shine as neighborhoods, towns, and cities display bombastic fireworks. Independence Day usually includes yummy backyard cookouts and red, white, and blue desserts. It is a day of patriotism, patriotic music, tricorne hats, and a celebration of who and what we are. In short, Independence Day is pure, unadulterated Americana. And it is wonderful!
So, while some of our typical holiday festivities might look a bit different this year for safety precautions, we hope you do something enjoyable with family and friends this year. Here are some ideas on how you can plan your weekend.
Dress up in patriotic themes
Well, at least on the 4th of July, a lot of people will be dressed in blue, white and red combinations. A few even like to take it a step further and wear costumes in honor of heroes like Abraham Lincoln.
Participate or watch the local parade
The Independence Day parade is a fancy affair and a lot of people participate as well as gather to watch the parade. Role plays, skits, musicals and a lot of performances are a part of the celebrations.
Day/Night out with family and friends
Since it is a paid national holiday for most Americans, an afternoon of barbecuing with your favorite people is probably the best way to enjoy the day. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and cake are usually on the menu.
Educate Yourself
Learn more about social justice issues from a variety of respected news publications. We are all one country and have a responsibility to treat every American with respect, regardless of our differences. To do this, education is key.
Enjoy Firework
Independence Day firework displays represent the three prominent colors of the American flag: red, white, and blue. In some places, people get together to enjoy some fireworks. Loads of food, beer, and fireworks are an ideal way to end the day.
Enjoy the moment, Make it memorable
Consider investing in a decent photo or video camera. Try fun capturing the memories. Compile short video clips and then set them to music; this makes a great way of preserving memories in a fun and engaging way.
Read about American history
If you've got a little one who doesn't quite know what the 4th of July is about, use the holiday as a chance to teach them more about American history and the deceleration of Independence
